The Gooseberry Hill Masterpiece
Sharp lines, minimalist design and neutral colour palate provide a vast contrast to the rolling red hills and gigantic, green trees that surround Gooseberry Hill, just west of Kalamunda National Park in Western Australia.
The award-winning home was built by Westmade Homes and employs 75 mm MasterWall and Skyline as major features. It’s not every day that we see a home that truly utilises its surroundings to the fullest advantage, but this Robertson Road home was built on an understanding of its environment and a call of duty to bring out the best in the home’s surroundings and vice versa.
Driving up the inclined driveway through the bordering trees, the exterior façade will come as a shock to most. It’s razor sharp lines and geometric design is jarring amongst its raw, earthy surroundings. A fire engine red feature on the Western elevation of the property undoubtedly makes Masterwall the star of the show. All eyes are on the attention seeking cube with seamless finishes and a feature window at its centre. Draw your eyes out to examine it amongst its surroundings and you will come to believe that this home has been transported from the future into what seems to be an uninhabited world. 75 mm MasterWall provides an energy efficient envelope that provides cooling during the hot summer’s day and warmth at night amongst the trees. The design freedom of Masterwall products have been utilised to their full potential to create unnatural shapes and lines within the most natural environment.
Upon entering the home, one’s eyes adjust to the truly minimalistic interior. Featuring a colour palate of white, black and the occasional wooden piece of furniture, the home creates a generous amount of space for the expansive views that surround it. The feature wall in the bathroom is a black geometric design paired alongside light, bright marbled tiles to compliment and create just another set of contrasts. Matte black towel racks and chrome tap wear enhance this minimalistic, ultra-modern design. A crisp, white open-plan living includes a minimalistic kitchen and dining with extensive overhead lighting. Once again, the home utilises its environment with floor to ceiling windows and glass doors that run around a vast portion of the house.
We circle back to the home’s pursuit of appealing to one’s longing to connect with nature. The large, expansive windows that surround the home provide beautiful natural light throughout the day. But most importantly, they create the ability to integrate the outside environment with the day-to-day goings on of the owners. One might watch the sun set every night to peachy, purple, marbled colours from the balcony that overlooks the vast rolling hills, or wake up to a perfectly serene view of trees and forest. The views are paramount here, and the home has been designed with the utmost respect for its environment to utilise it to its full capability.
In an unassuming spot at the top of Gooseberry Hill stands a testament to the capabilities of Masterwall products. The seamless, sharp lines of the exterior façade cannot be topped in modern design. We feel privileged to have contributed to this stunning home and look forward to the future of design and of Masterwall products.
